Tree & Shrub Pruning and Removal

Turf & Tree Worx provides complete pruning and removal services for unwanted and/or damaged trees and shrubs, including storm damaged trees.  Our estimates include site clean-up, chipping, and hauling away of brush and debris.

  • Why? Pruning the tree improves plant health, as the tree will be more resistant to insects and diseases; it also provides filtered sunlight to the lawn and plants below the tree. Pruning the tree will improve the appearance of your home and help to ensure the safety of your home.
  • How? Basic pruning consists of thinning, shaping, raising and removing dead wood. It might also include taking trees down.
  • What? Most trees and shrubs (contact us with any questions).

All of our spray treatments contain a tacking agent to keep the product on the foliage longer and to withstand rainfall.  There are six different treatments that can be applied each season. Treatments are applied in four to six week intervals, with the exception of applications 1 & 2 which can be applied on the same day or within days of each other, if needed. The general program consists of fertilizer, insect and disease control.

Use the links below to learn more about each of our Tree & Shrub Treatments:

Late Summer Insect, Disease and Mite Control

  • When? September and October. Same as spring and summer applications

Gypsy Moth Spraying

  • When? May and June
  • Gypsy moth problems need to be addressed early.

Deep Root Fertilization

Spring and/or Fall Deep Root Fertilization

Contains 26-0-4 fertilizer. If the trees and shrubs are planted in good soil, are young, and there are no signs of stress or health issues, then this application will help accelerate growth while assuring they are receiving nutrients for optimal health.

  • $95.00 for the first tree and $10.00 for each additional tree or group of shrubs. This is recommended for younger plants with no health issues, planted in good soil and as a maintenance program.

Spring and/or Fall Deep Root Fertilization with Special Mix
Contains 26-0-4 fertilizer, macro nutrients (bacteria) superthrive minerals and merit systemic insect control. The Merit (Imaclopryd) protects the tree from most insect problems, including bores. This mix is recommended if your trees and shrubs are planted in less than ideal growing conditions, are stressed, have had or are prone to insect problems. This mix can significantly turn a plant around in 6 months to a year.

  • $180.00 for the first tree and $15-$20 for each additional tree or group of shrubs. This mix is recommended for trees/shrubs in poor soil conditions, and/or under stress.

Standard Mix with Merit
Contains 26-0-4 fertilizer. This mix is recommended as a cost savings approach to treat trees/shrubs that don’t appear to have health issues, stress, etc. That you would like to maintain and protect from pest problems.

  • $120.00 for the first tree and $15-$20 for each additional tree or group of shrubs.

Micro Mauget Injections

These small medicine caps are also used for fertilization, and insect & disease control.  This type of treatment is a direct injection into the tree trunk, which acts quicker.  This method of treatment is preferred as an environmentally friendly option to spraying pesticides into the air. If the applications are for trees only (not shrubs), and/or if the tree has a critical problem that needs aggressive treatment. It is also one of two main treatment options for gypsy moth and Emerald Ash Bore control.

We also can add Merit to our spring or fall deep root fertilizer mix or separately. Merit injected (also referred to as soil drench) into the root zone of trees and shrubs is a systemic pesticide which is a popular treatment in preventing many pest problems, including Emerald Ash Bore.

Mauget also offers a product that works well in preventing Apple Scab.  This product must be injected in early spring before bud break.  This is a one time application as an alternative to spraying multiple times throughout the season.

We offer treeage for EAB.

Deer Repellent

Done one time in October and lasts for 6 months.

Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) Treatment

The larvae of the EAB feed inside the tree destroying the tree’s vascular system. A large, healthy Ash tree may be killed by the EAB in 2-3 years. It is unlikely that a tree may be saved once its canopy is 25% dead. Some of the signs indicating that an ash tree might be infested include:

  • Overall thinning of the tree canopy
  • Dead and dying branches
  • Splitting bark
  • Extensive sucker growth
  • “D” shaped emergence holes in trunks and branches
  • Woodpecker activity

The tree doesn’t have to be cut down if detected early. Since the EAB is a borer, it spends the majority of its life cycle inside the Ash tree; therefore, a systemic insecticide program will give the best results. Mauget insecticides Imicide and Inject-A-Cide B are two proven effective systemic options, which control the Emerald Ash Borer rather than a removal program. (Mauget injection caps are a one time direct injection into the tree one time per season.)

Diagnosis of EAB in early stage is difficult as the symptoms/damage starts at the top of the tree and works its way down. This situation makes prevention the better approach. The most effective way to protect your Ash tree against the EAB is with a preventive program. Treeage is the effective choice for either a preventive or an early curative control option. Apply Treeage in the spring so the newly hatched larvae will be controlled as soon as they penetrate the tree’s bark and begin feeding. Treeage will provide effective season long insect control.

Treeage is the effective curative option. An application of Treeage will be translocated throughout the entire tree very quickly where it will eradicate both the EAB larvae inside the tree as well as the adult beetles feeding on the Ash foliage.

It is recommended that all trees be fertilized in the fall to build their own defense system and increase vitality. As your lawn and landscape service provider, please keep us in mind as your first line of defense when dealing with EAB or any other turf and ornamental pest problems.
